Justin’s Approach
Justin understands that some clients have relatively simple issues that require only a few visits to resolve. Whereas other clients may present with complex issues that have roots in troubled early life relationships and events. With Justin’s many years of practice he is able to ensure that regardless of the diversity of clients issues, Justin always matches the most effective combination of approaches and treatments to each clients unique challenges.
Justin believes that good therapy requires a deep consideration and respect for the personal story and specific experiences of each of his clients. Good therapy also must involve the building of a meaningful relationship between a therapist and his clients and Justin ensures this relationship is grounded in curiosity and compassion. Beyond the personal dimensions of life, Justin also considers the complex layers of influence that shape identity, including, culture, religion, social media, family and relationships.
Such complexity requires a comprehensive treatment approach, Justin has a particular interest in Schema Therapy. Schema Therapy is an integrative approach to treatment that combines the best aspects of cognitive-behavioural, experiential, interpersonal and psychoanalytic therapies into one unified model. Schema Therapy has shown remarkable results in helping people to change negative (“maladaptive”) patterns which his clients have lived with for a long time, even when other methods and efforts they have tried before have been largely unsuccessful.
